Mr. Shadid will speak about the implications of the war in Iraq on the Middle East. Iraq, in some ways, is a catalyst for change. In other ways, it mirrors the transformation already under way in the Middle East, as ideology makes way for hardening sectarian and ethnic lines that pose one of the greatest challenges to the region since colonialism. Mr. Shadid will explore that transformation in the talk, both through his experiences in Iraq, as well as time spent in Lebanon and Egypt.
