Welcome to Model UN at UC San Diego

Hello Model UN!

We have a NEW General Body Meeting time, at *5:30pm* on Mondays.  Locations vary, so please check in with our Google Calendar week by week.

Next week’s meeting (November 24, 2008) will be held in a mock-conference style, where we will be using general conference rules and procedures to hold a debate.  The topic that we decided on by general vote at last week’s General Body Meeting was: “Food and Manufactured Goods from China.”  We will be discussing the lack of regulation and recent food-related deaths from Chinese food products, as well as the issue of manufactured goods (toys, for example) that has become more evident in recent months.

News/Announcements for 11/17- 11/21, 2008:

  • Congratulations to Paul Shao and Hilary Thomson, on their election and confirmation into leadership!  Paul is now the Deputy USG of Finance Team, and Hillary is the Deputy USG of Public Relations. 
  • International Education Week is happening right now, and there are plenty of exciting activities planned for those internationally-minded folks out there.  Visit iew.ucsd.edu for more information on events that are happening.
  • The Travel Team will be going to Las Vegas to compete in the FarWest conference this weekend.  We are sending a delegation of seven students from Friday November 21 - Tuesday November 25. If you would like to wish the FarWest delegation luck, or attend conferences in the future, email Krists Auders (kauders@ucsd.edu).
  • Home Conference Team has accepted applications for leadership positions and is in the process of confirming a new team Secretariat.
  • Model UN will be partnering with International Affairs Group in Week 10 to host a Movie Night.  We will be screening Motorcycle Diaries, as well as selling concessions and t-shirts.  If you would like to help out with this event, or attend, please contact Alex Swan (aswan@ucsd.edu).
