Marissa Sunio Year: Junior Major: Political Science & History (East Asian Concentration) |
My name is Marissa Sunio and I currently serve as your Deputy Secretary-General. For the 08-09 school year, I would like to serve as your Secretary-General. I was in MUN for 4 years in high school and next year will be my 4th year being involved at UCSD. I’d like to keep this organization in the same direction it is currently going, forward. Serving as the Deputy Secretary-General, I was able to work with my fellow leadership staff to plan agendas, help with events, and give my input on the direction of the club. I would like to see MUN as a prominent club at UCSD because of our participation and achievements. I would also like our program to be continuously known throughout California, and eventually the nation, as an organization that is professional and capable of both hosting a successful high school conference and attending college conferences. I am enthusiastic about Model UN and hope that all of you are too. Thank you for your time, and I will see you all soon. |

I believe that I am an excellent candidate for SG because my previous MUN leadership and extreme dedication has allowed me to demonstrate my ability to be an efficient leader of this organization.

Christiana Reid Year: Sophomore Major: International Studies |
As Deputy Secretary General, I would work to further improve the image and success of Model United Nations at UC San Diego. I can do so through my extensive experience within the organization: - Served as the USG of Development for 2007-2008, working to grow our membership and student involvement through: o Information sessions, o Study breaks, o Tabling for upcoming events/meetings, o Fundraising: letter writing, food sales, Casino Night, o Writing press releases and for Kultura (I-House newsletter), o Working with I-House – International Education Week, International Career Symposium; - Home Conference: I am a chair for the upcoming High School Conference, and helped develop a professional logo for the team/organization at large; - Travel Team: I have attended five conferences to date, and have served as head delegate at two. I have a vested interest in the success of this organization, and hope that I can rely on my experience with MUN to serve as the future Deputy Secretary General. |

Sarah McCracken Year: Freshman Major: N/A |
My name is Sarah McCracken and I’m running for the position of USG of Finance. I recently joined this organization during Winter quarter, but I quickly became involved, attended two conferences, and dedicated considerable time to Model UN. I am currently a member of the PRinance team, and I feel that by participating in fundraising efforts, I have gained insight into how Finance operates. As the USG of Finance, I will continuously fundraise, improve this team’s efficiency, and better our relationship with the local business community. I hope to be valuable to Finance as I continue my involvement in MUN. |

I think serving as USG for Home Conference will be a great opportunity, not just as a personal betterment, but as a way to give back and provide others with opportunity as well. I believe that I will be able to get the job done, get people involved, and, more importantly, get people excited about what we do. The predecessors for this position have laid groundwork that I know will help create an even smoother foundation for planning and running next year’s conference. With the examples provided and the planning I have been a part of this year, I feel I have at least the basic understanding of how to motivate people to complete tasks, and how to maintain the levels of professionalism, organization, and coordination that are essential to this position. |

Throughout the year, I have attended every conference and been the only travel team member, helping Pavitra do much of the work of organizing travel. I have helped train new delegates and held traveling as my priority, and will continue to do so, even with all my involvement in every other committee and the secretariat. Now that an actual travel team is in its infancy, I have already begun running it and its meetings, with big plans for next year. I will do everything I can to take a delegation to the east coast, as well as other great conferences. |
